LONDON CALLING: Sarah Burton cast friends and muses Rooney Mara and Paul Simonon in her resort 2026 campaign for Givenchy, providing the first glimpse of her menswear direction for the French luxury brand.
Simonon, best known as the bassist for The Clash, looks dapper in a black suit worn with a white shirt and lace-up boots, flanked by his English toy terriers Snoop and Peanut. In another image, the punk icon and artist flashes a gap-toothed smile as he cradles one of the dogs on one arm.
Lensed by Collier Schorr, it is part of an ongoing series of portraits capturing Burton’s creative cohort.
“My friends are often my muses, and my muses often become friends. The second in our Portrait Series celebrates this creative relationship with both Rooney Mara and Paul Simonon,” the designer said in a statement shared exclusively with WWD.
Mara reveals a playful side in the ads, which capture her in unguarded poses, whether wearing a sheer black lace dress with oversized sparkly blue earrings, or black suit pants with a oversized white tie-front shirt.
Burton, who received the WWD Honor for Womenswear Designer of the Year, has presented two women’s ready-to-wear collections for Givenchy, but has yet to show menswear. She is expected to sit out Paris Fashion Week Men’s in January in favor of a look book.
Schorr’s first campaign for the house for fall 2025 featured many of the top models from Burton’s hit debut show, as well as some of the backstage crew. Makeup artist Lucia Pieroni and stylist Camilla Nickerson, two of her longtime collaborators, appeared alongside models such as Adut Akech, Vittoria Ceretti and Kaia Gerber.
The resort 2026 campaign once again teamed Schorr with Nickerson and Pieroni, who this time remained off-camera. Olivier Schawalder did the hair, and Ama Quashie the nails.
