The San Francisco 49ers have been hoping for big things from second year wide receiver Ricky Pearsall, but once again injury appears to have gotten in the way. Pearsall caught an eight-yard pass to open the team’s Week 15 matchup against the Tennessee Titans and he got hurt on a hip drop tackle. He has been dealing with a knee injury and the tackle might have aggravated the injury. He limped to the sideline and immediately to the injury tent.
Christian McCaffrey and George Kittle will be the busiest offensive players on Sunday, but Pearsall’s absence opens up opportunities for the other receivers. Demarcus Robinson caught a pass later on that same drive and then Jauan Jennings caught a touchdown pass to cap it. We can also expect Kendrick Bourne to get some looks.
Post-drive update: Following the drive, Pearsall was moving around celebrating with his receiver teammates. He was not accompanied by training staff, and the team did not announce an injury status. This bodes well for his chances of returning to this game.
Next drive update: Pearsall was back on the field for the next drive and is good to go.
