Regulation Freeze, Commercial Drone Alliance comments – sUAS News

The CDA looks forward to working with the Trump Administration to enact critical enabling regulations for the commercial drone industry.

The CDA’s leadership recently met with the Trump Administration’s DOT Transition Team to discuss the importance of Beyond Visual Line of Sight rulemaking and other actions that would promote economic growth and benefits in the United States. The transition team expressed their commitment to working with the CDA and its members over the next four years of the Administration and strongly supported putting in place the regulatory framework needed to reduce barriers to commercial drone operations.

The “regulatory freeze” for rules pending review announced by the Administration yesterday was expected and includes important flexibility for the incoming DOT/FAA team to exercise. We share the White House’s desire to cut red tape and streamline existing processes to the benefit of the American public.

Given the strong statement of support from Congressman Duffy during his Confirmation Hearing last week, we are optimistic that this Administration will get the BVLOS rule (Part 108) back on track. Inappropriate regulatory burdens from legacy aviation regulations currently prevent commercial drone operations from scaling nationwide. The Part 108 rule is vital to unlocking the full potential of scaled commercial drone operations and strengthening the domestic industrial base for remotely piloted and autonomous aircraft technologies.

We urge the incoming DOT/FAA team to advance this crucial enabling regulation. And we look forward to working with all of the new appointees at the DOT, FAA, White House and across the Administration to restore America’s global leadership in commercial drone technology!
