Raheem Mostert, De’Von Achane injuries: Fantasy football implications for Jeff Wilson, Dolphins in Week 2

The Miami Dolphins will be shorthanded in the backfield heading into Week 2. They host the Buffalo Bills on Thursday Night Football, and head coach Mike McDaniel announced that running back Raheem Mostert has been ruled out for the game. Additionally, De’Von Achane is questionable and will be a game-time decision.

This past Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Jeff Wilson, Jr. led the team with 26 rushing yards on five carries. Achane had ten carries for 24 yards and a touchdown and seven receptions for 76 yards. Mostert had six rushes for nine yards and two receptions for ten yards.

Raheem Mostert, De’Von Achane fantasy football implications

Mostert and Achane have not practiced this week. It was no surprise Mostert was ruled out, but we likely won’t know until closer to inactives if Achane will be able to go. If he can go, he’s the player to start this week, and remains a solid start against the Bills. If Achane cannot go, Wilson is worth starting.

The biggest issue last week for Buffalo’s run defense against the Arizona Cardinals was Kyler Murray. They held James Conner to 3.1 yards per carry. Nonetheless, no Mostert means that Miami’s starting running back will get a sizable workload. If Achane starts, Wilson will take some of his work. But if Achane is inactive, Wilson could end up getting a sizable workload due to the lack of depth behind him.

Even without clear answers, Wilson is worth adding in all formats. It might be a short-term add, but injury questions could open the door to a guy who hasn’t gotten a ton of opportunities, but has succeeded when he has gotten on the field.
