R-Truth is the Panthers ultimate good luck charm

The Carolina Panthers pulled themselves to 3-3 on the season with a stunning upset win over the Cowboys on Sunday, and we should have seen it coming — because the Panthers had their secret good luck charm. This season the team has hosted WWE superstar R-Truth to each of its home games, and so far the team is 3-0 at home. Coincidence? Possibly. Something you want to mess up? Absolutely not.

It began with Truth attending his first Panthers game on September 21, which is remarkable considering he’s from Charlotte. Carolina went on to beat the Falcons 30-0.

Next up were the Dolphins in Week 5. A game many thought was probably a push, but once again R-Truth was there and Carolina won in a big comeback, 27-24 — taking their R-Truth record to 2-0 on the season.

It would have been a neat story to end here, but no. The biggest test of the Truth effect came on Sunday when he was in attendance to see the Panthers face the Cowboys. This was a game nobody thought Carolina had a shot in, but when you have the 54-time 24/7 champion in your corner anything is possible.

Given the ludicrous amount of pro wrestlers from the Carolinas it’s ridiculous that the Panthers haven’t tried to incorporate them more. Most famously is Ric Flair, who is from Charlotte — but let’s be real: Ric will support any team that gives him $1,000 and an open bar. In the past he’s repped the Panthers, Falcons, 49ers, Rams, Buccaneers, and Titans.

That’s why Flair never really worked. When you support everyone then nobody can have good luck. Truth on the other hand, he’s only begun to rep his hometown NFL team now, and it’s working.
