Queen Maxima’s Indonesian trip started out with an airport greeting in patterned slip-ons.
The queen of the Netherlands made a trip to Jakarta on Monday. She’s using the trip to fulfill her duties as the U.N. Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Financial Health, promoting financial wellness and speaking to various representatives, organizations and business owners about policy, plus financial products and services.

For the first day of her trip, Queen Maxima was greeted at the airport wearing black loafers from Banana Republic. Her sensible shoes got a subtle pop of embellishment with embroidered white polka dots covering the entire loafer that popped against the stark black of the shoe.
Loafers are a popular pick for this time of the year when it’s getting too chilly for sandals but boot season isn’t quite in full swing. The academic feel to the shoe is also perfect for the fall, with new school years starting everywhere.

Queen Maxima’s classic loafers were a departure from the footwear she typically is seen in. She regularly wears heels for her royal engagements, like when she attended the Leading Locals Network of Mind Us last year in nude pumps, or when she wore suede pointy pumps to the General Assembly at the United Nations earlier this this year.

Queen Maxima went with a polished look for the rest of her ensemble, staying on theme with her footwear choice. She wore a black tailored blazer with flowing sleeves over a crisp white button-down blouse. She paired these with black bermuda shorts. The outfit played a delicate balance of being trendy and cool while still being professional and royal-friendly.
