Funding to Boost Production, Expand Internationally, and Advance Autonomous Aerial Systems for Defense and Industry
Quantum Systems Secures Major Investment to Scale Aerial Intelligence Solutions
Quantum Systems, a Germany-based developer of AI-powered drone platforms, has raised €160 million to expand global operations and scale production. The Series C funding round was led by Balderton Capital, with support from Hensoldt, Airbus Defense and Space, Bullhound Capital, LP&E AG, and returning investors including Porsche SE, Peter Thiel, and Airbus Ventures.
The company, known for its dual-use drone technology serving both government and commercial sectors, plans to use the funds to enhance its software and AI capabilities, increase manufacturing output, and support expansion in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.
“The need for sovereign, aerial intelligence has never been more pressing,” said Florian Seibel, co-CEO and co-founder of Quantum Systems. “Our systems, a powerful blend of hardware and software, are built for the realities of modern defense and security challenges – they are autonomous, interoperable, and proven under harsh conditions. With support from our new and existing investors, we are ready to become the European leader in robotised and AI-powered aerial intelligence solutions, providing both public and commercial customers with the high-quality, accurate data they need for daily decision making.”
Growth Driven by Defense and Commercial Demand
Founded in 2015, Quantum Systems specializes in electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) drones. These platforms integrate AI and edge computing to provide real-time aerial intelligence. The company’s flagship product, the Vector AI, has already seen deployment in active combat zones like Ukraine.
The firm has grown rapidly in both revenue and reach, doubling sales year-over-year and expanding its global footprint. Recent acquisitions of AirRobot in Germany and Nordic Unmanned UK have strengthened its presence in the defense sector, including becoming a tier-1 supplier to the UK Ministry of Defence.
Quantum Systems’ drones are currently used by forces in Germany, Ukraine, Australia, New Zealand, and Spain. In the commercial sector, the company supports customers in mining, agriculture, and infrastructure, including RocketDNA and India’s Department for Science and Technology.
“The successful completion of our Series C financing marks a significant milestone in our company’s history,” said Sven Kruck, co-CEO of Quantum Systems. “This investment allows us to follow our vision. We will increase our global production capacity to meet the growing demand for our AI-powered drone systems and expand our market presence worldwide.”
Backing from a Global Network of Investors
The new investment brings Quantum Systems’ total funding to €310 million. Balderton Capital led the latest round, citing confidence in the team and technology.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Florian, Sven, and their exceptional team as they redefine the standard for aerial intelligence,” said Rana Yared, General Partner at Balderton Capital. “Quantum Systems has the technical excellence, strategic vision, and operational maturity to become a world leader in this critical category, and positively further both security and commercial objectives.”
The company now employs 550 people across its offices in Germany, Australia, Ukraine, and Romania. With a focus on both immediate applications and long-term innovation, Quantum Systems is positioning itself as a global player in aerial robotics.
