Project Q Funding – DRONELIFE

The European startup aims to bridge civilian tech and defense with its Q-OSP platform and Internet of Defense approach

Berlin-Based Startup Secures Seed Round to Expand Military-Grade Intelligence Platform

Project Q, a German defense-tech startup, has secured €7.5 million in seed funding to accelerate the development of its Q-Open Source Platform (Q-OSP). The funding round was led by early-stage investor Project A, with additional backing from Expeditions Fund and Superangel.

The investment will allow Project Q to scale its engineering team, refine its core technology, and begin pilot projects with European armed forces and security agencies. The company’s Q-OSP platform is designed to provide real-time intelligence by integrating diverse data sources and AI tools across different domains.

A Software-Defined Approach to Modern Defense

Project Q delivers modular, cost-effective solutions that offer situational awareness in mission-critical environments. Its Internet of Defence (IoD) approach focuses on transforming commercial technology into interoperable systems for defense and security applications.

Q-OSP serves as the company’s integration layer, enabling different sensors, legacy infrastructure, and third-party datasets to work together. By connecting these systems using AI, Q provides a flexible platform that reduces deployment time and improves decision-making.

“Modern defence requires faster innovation cycles, and the transformation of siloed systems into an integrated network that can be leveraged on European scale,” said Leonard Wessendorff, CEO & Co-Founder of Project Q.

Solving the Data Fragmentation Challenge with Unmanned Systems

According to Project A General Partner Uwe Horstmann, growing use of unmanned systems has led to more data and fragmentation. “Since the war in Ukraine, Western militaries have significantly ramped up their adoption of unmanned systems, from UAVs to UGVs and beyond. But more hardware means more data, more sensors, and more fragmentation,” he said.

“What Leonard and his team at Q are building is a game changer: a unified platform that fuses data across domains, integrates seamlessly with legacy infrastructure, and enables modern defence technologies to actually operate as a coherent system. It’s the kind of deep tech that turns complexity into capability.”

Bridging Civilian and Military Technologies

Founded in 2024, Project Q was created to help Europe achieve technological sovereignty by turning existing capabilities into field-ready solutions. The company’s founders bring together experience in military operations, artificial intelligence, and government procurement.

By focusing on integration and speed, Project Q is positioning itself as a key player in Europe’s evolving defense landscape. Its early traction with public sector stakeholders signals growing demand for flexible platforms that can quickly respond to operational needs.

“We’re excited to be partnering with such renowned and likeminded investors who support our mission to strengthen Europe’s technological sovereignty in the security and defense sector through scalable and interoperable solutions,” said Wessendorff.

About the Investors

Project A is a leading European early-stage venture capital firm with €1.2 billion in assets under management. Its portfolio includes firms like Trade Republic, Quantum Systems, and ARX Robotics. The firm supports ventures from idea to scale and operates a founder-led Studio to help validate and shape new ideas.

Superangel is an early-stage investment fund also supporting the launch of Archangel, Europe’s defense-first VC fund. The firm combines deep mission knowledge with a strong track record in European defense tech.

About Project Q

Project Q is building the digital infrastructure for Europe’s next-generation defense and security systems. Its IoD framework and Q-OSP platform allow for rapid integration of data across sensors, systems, and platforms. The startup focuses on delivering scalable, mission-relevant intelligence systems that close gaps in situational awareness and operational performance.
