D4vd is under investigation in connection with the death of Celeste Rivas, according to TMZ and NBC4. Those reports cite anonymous law enforcement officials who declined to speak on the record; the Houston singer-songwriter born David Anthony Burke has not formally been named a suspect. Police instead hinted that they view D4vd as a suspect, suggesting they lack the evidence to implicate him publicly in Rivas’ death. The Los Angeles Police Department told TMZ it is not close to making an arrest.
Police sources added that they view Rivas’ death as a homicide, according to TMZ, though at present the case is not a murder investigation. Police are awaiting toxicology results from the medical examiner to clarify the circumstances of Rivas’ death.
D4vd has canceled shows and disappeared from the public eye since the 15-year-old girl’s chopped-up, decomposing body was found, in September, in a Tesla registered under his name. TMZ’s law enforcement sources added that the condition of Rivas’ corpse suggests multiple people were involved in its dismemberment.
Pitchfork has emailed representatives for D4vd and the Los Angeles Police Department for comment.
