Polestar Continues Growing Its Lineup With New Small 7 SUV

Polestar used the start of the new year as an opportunity to release a roadmap for its future, and all the typical buzzwords were included. EBITDA. Positive free cash flow. Securing new equity and debt funding. Strong product momentum. The future is bright, and Polestar will soon sell more cars. It wasn’t a very interesting press release unless you’re a real business nerd, but it did contain a product announcement — a new compact crossover called the Polestar 7 is coming.

Polestar didn’t include many details in the 7 announcement, nor did it include an image, so you’ll just have to use your imagination for now. There’s a decent chance it will borrow a lot of its styling from the Polestar 3 shown above. In fact, it could very easily just be a Polestar 3 that’s been shrunk down a little. Not that the 3 is a huge SUV in the first place. Length-wise, it’s about the size of a Porsche Cayenne.

One detail Polestar did include is the fact that the 7 will be built in Europe. Plus, it said that in the future Polestar vehicles will all be built on the same platform. When the new Polestar 7 will go on sale, however, is not yet clear.

“Polestar is known for its progressive design, with each car standing out and creating its own buzz – so too will Polestar 7. It is incredibly exciting to bring Polestar’s design ethos to a new segment. Polestar 7 will be everything our customers expect from us, both in terms of design and performance,” Philipp Römers, Polestar’s Head of Design, said in a statement.

By entering the compact crossover segment, it seems like Polestar will effectively be replacing the 2 with the 7 even though one is a sedan, and the other is an SUV. Will we eventually get a direct replacement for the Polestar 2? It’s possible, but at the same time, crossovers are so much more popular than sedans, it isn’t surprising to see Polestar prioritize SUVs. And if the 7 looks as good as the 3 does, it’ll probably be a pretty desirable little car.
