Facing reporters after coming out on the losing end of Super Bowl LIX, Patrick Mahomes put the blame on his own shoulders.
The Philadelphia Eagles defense pressured Mahomes early and often in Super Bowl LIX, sacking him six times and getting 11 quarterback hits on the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback. Mahomes finished Super Bowl LIX having completed 21-of-32 passes for 257 yards and 3 touchdowns, but he also threw a pair of interceptions in the first half.
Those interceptions proved costly as the Eagles converted both into points. The first came on a Pick-Six from Cooper DeJean, and the second was a diving interception by Zack Baun that gifted the Eagles possession deep in Kansas City territory.
“Credit to the Eagles, they played better than us from start to finish,” said Mahomes to the media, including SB Nation, after the game. “Obviously the turnovers hurt. I take all the blame for that. Those early turnovers swing the momentum of the game, they capitalized on them. They scored on one, and they scored immediately after the other. That’s 14 points that I kind of gave them.”

Super Bowl LIX was very reminiscent of Super Bowl LV, when the Chiefs lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by a final score of 31-9. On that night in Tampa Bay, the Buccaneers pass rush flustered Mahomes early and often, while relying heavily on just the four up front and dropping seven into coverage.

The loss also denied the Chiefs a chance at Super Bowl history, as they fell short of becoming the first team to win three consecutive Super Bowls.
