The color purple made it to the Democratic National Convention’s blue stage on Wednesday in Chicago.
“Who says you can’t go home again?” said Oprah Winfrey, who addressed the crowd wearing a monochromatic look that started with shimmering purple eyes down to her plum pumps.
Winfrey made her entrance wearing a bespoke Christian Siriano suit that included a peplum-style jacket with sharp shoulders and matching wide-leg trousers. She accessorized with simple rings and amethyst-purple earrings.
During her speech, Winfrey revealed she is a “registered Independent,” and the symbolism of joining Republican-red and Democrat-blue resonated in her all-purple look — a resulting blend of the hues.
“Thank you @oprah for tonight WOW! So so chic in custom Siriano giving a very powerful speech at the #DNC,” Siriano said on Instagram.
Stylist Annabelle Harron, whose other clients include Patricia Arquette and Elizabeth Debicki, collaborated with Winfrey for her appearance as well as her past purple streak during the last awards’ season.
Throughout the majority of 2023 and the beginning of 2024, Winfrey embraced purple hues on red carpets to promote “The Color Purple,” of which she served as a producer. She donned several looks, including the 2024 Golden Globes red carpet in a bright violet Louis Vuitton dress and matching Manolo Blahnik shoes.
The media queen returned to the city that hosted her former long-running talk show to support the Democratic presidential race ticket’s Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, who accepted the nomination for vice president.
“Let us choose joy because that’s the best of America, but more than anything else, let us choose freedom… because that’s the best of America… and together let’s all choose Kamala Harris,” Winfrey said to the audience, interjecting her signature vibrato.
Winfrey was among the bold face names on the third night of the DNC, which included Bill Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Kenan Thompson, Mindy Kaling, who wore Monique Lhuillier, and performances by Stevie Wonder, John Legend and Maren Morris, who wore David Koma.
The 2024 Democratic National Convention is taking place in Chicago. Held to officially nominate Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential candidate and affirm her choice of Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota for vice president, the event also had its share of fashion statements.
On Tuesday, Michelle Obama took the stage in a Monse crisscross jacket. On Monday, Jill Biden sparkled in a custom Ralph Lauren dress and Hillary Clinton brought her signature style in a tweed suit.
The DNC will end on Thursday with Kamala Harris’s official speech as the Democratic nominee.
