Ollie Gordon start or sit: Week 9 fantasy football advice

The 2-6 Miami Dolphins got a much needed easy win last week against the ghost of Kirk Cousins and the Atlanta Falcons. This week will be a different story, as they play on a short week when they host the 2-5 Baltimore Ravens as 7.5 point home underdogs.

The Ravens got a much needed win last week against the Bears in their third game without Lamar Jackson at the helm. That win gives them a little hope as they try to claw their way back into the playoff race, which seems possible with Jackson back from his hamstring injury this week.

All signs point to Lamar Jackson and Ravens taking their frustrations out on the Dolphins in prime time. But, even if that happens, it doesn’t mean the Dolphins’ fantasy players can’t put up fantasy points, as the Ravens defense has been poor this season.

Last week we saw backup running back Ollie Gordon have the best game of his season, rushing 10 times for 46 yards and catching his one target for a 20-yard touchdown.

Below, we’ll go over Ollie Gordon’s outlook in fantasy football for Week 9.

Fantasy Football analysis: Dolphins, RB, Ollie Gordon

The first thing we need to realize about Gordon’s strong Week 8 is that his touchdown came in the fourth quarter, pushing the Dolphins lead to 31-3 in a blowout. The good news is that the Dolphins coaching staff has talked about getting Gordon the ball more and they did in this game. He had five opportunities in the first quarter and three in the second. He then saw one in the third and three in the fourth. Jaylen Wright then closed out the blowout.

The fact that the touchdown came with the game out of hand is still somewhat worrisome. If the game was close, there’s a real chance that target would have gone to stud back De’Von Achane. This is a week with four teams on bye and Gordon could see usage around the goal line, but asking for 11 touches again this week in a game the Dolphins should be trailing is asking a lot. Gordon is a touchdown or bust play this Thursday night against a Ravens defense that has been bad this year, but is at least healthier than they were before their Week 7 bye.
