Nissan announced something weird early last year: An in-house shed-build, led by a single enthusiast within the company, to electrify an R32 Skyline GT-R. A year and a half later, the project is now apparently ready for its grand reveal at the 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon.
We haven’t heard much about the electrified GT-R, which is somehow not called Mechagodzilla, since it was first teased back in March of 2023. Even now, Nissan is light on details — we know it “aims to capture and recreate the charm of the BNR32 by integrating modern electrification,” but that’s about all the company says. No details, no specs, no further copy.
Clearly, then, the only way to learn about the electric R32 is to drive it. If we can’t learn its horsepower and torque from a press release, we’ll just have to learn it from behind the wheel. The car is clearly in a finished enough state to show off at the Tokyo Auto Salon, which means it should be drivable enough for someone to get in the driver’s seat. Me. I should get in the driver’s seat.
Nissan, if you’re reading this, let me drive the electric R32. I’m a longtime Skyline GT-R fan who’s never gotten the chance to drive one, and a longtime EV fan who adores the sort of linear power delivery that comes with three-phase motors. I’ll blog about it so hard, you won’t even believe it. Please, let me behind the wheel. I can be trusted with the one-of-one electric R32.
