Those that can’t wait to get their hands, or feet, on the Nike Vomero Premium may not have to. That is, provided they’re in New York City.
The flagship model of Nike‘s maximum-cushioned Vomero running line will release early this weekend in New York City. A wider release date is still in place for Oct. 2 through select retailers and Oct. 16 globally.
As the name suggests, the Vomero Premium is the most technologically advanced of the three current Vomero models. It boasts a full-length ZoomX foam midsole with Zoom Air units at the forefoot and heel and has the highest stack height of any Nike running shoe at 55mm. Inspiration from the past comes through an engineered mesh upper with an oversized “Air” graphic pulled from the Air Uptempo, while the high-abrasion rubber outsole carries a classic waffle pattern.
ZoomX delivers energy return at a rate of 85 percent and also features on both the Vomero 18 and Vomero Plus, albeit stacked on top of ReactX foam on the former model.
In June, prior to the release of the Vomero Plus and four months after the Vomero 18 debuted, Nike president and chief executive officer Elliot Hill said the Vomero franchise had already become a $100 million franchise this year. The line is part of a three-pronged reorganization for Nike’s running shoes, with the responsive-cushioned Pegasus and stable-cushioned Structure also getting numbered, Plus and Premium models.
Speaking to Footwear News in July for a story on Nike’s comeback in running, Philadelphia Runner co-owner Ross Marinson said: “I really liked the [Vomero 17], but we did not sell very many of them. The new Vomeros are the best-selling Nike right away. The problem has been the men’s [sizes], we haven’t been able to get enough of them. But that’s sort of a good problem.”
The Nike Vomero Premium will release on Saturday in New York City through select Nike stores and retail partners. Pricing is set at $220.
