Nike Air Max2 CB 94 ‘Black/Varsity Royal’ 2026 Release Date IX4182-010

It looks like Nike has big plans for Charles Barkley’s fan-favorite Air Max2 CB 94 sneaker in 2026. Not only is the model set to return in a stealthy Triple Black look, but it’s also lined up for an unexpected low-top skateboarding update courtesy of Nike SB. Now, we’re learning the Barkley retro lineup will grow with the return of an obscure — yet anticipated — colorway.

The Nike Air Max2 CB 94 is set to be reissued next year in its Black/Varsity Royal colorway, the first appearance for this particular style since its 2004 debut. Mixing a royal blue base with nubuck overlays and a jagged white midsole, the colorway would have looked right at home alongside other Nike basketball shoes from the 1990s such as the Air Up, Air Max CW and Penny Hardaway’s various signature sneakers.

Known for its aggressive high-top design, the Air Max2 CB 94’s key features include elastic straps on the tongue said to be inspired by straightjackets, a nod to Barkley’s volatile reputation in the ‘90s. The shoe’s midsole includes “teeth” support outriggers which not only served a purpose on the court, but contributed to the Air Max2 CB 94’s iconic design. A heel Air Max unit added support for a player of Barkley’s stature, while circular metal mesh cutouts gave the model some much-needed breathability.

The Air Max2 CB 94 was a product of prolific Nike designer Eric Avar, who also worked on many of Hardaway and Kobe Bryant’s namesake sneakers. It’s also notable for being Barkley’s first official signature sneaker after the basketball hall of famer previously wore the brand’s Air Force Max and Air Force 180 Low models.

According to Sole Retriever, the Air Max2 CB 94 in Black/Varsity Royal/White will return for the first time during fall 2026. The style code for this colorway is IX4182-010 with an anticipated retail price of $160. Readers can expect availability from Nike’s Snkrs app and select Nike Sportswear retailers globally. Note that in-hand images of the ’26 version have yet to surface and the pair pictured here is from ’04.
