NFL Survivor pool strategy: Week 8 picks considering safe, value, trap games

The NFL returns is back for a full slate in Week 8 and things have settled down to a certain extent. The first five weeks saw favorites losing at a shocking clip, but the past two weeks has seen most of the favorites taking care of business. The Bills briefly looked like they might suffer a stunner to the Titans, but they righted the ship in a hurry.

That has meant we’re seeing Survivor pools settle down after five weeks of chaos. Most pools have slimmed down considerably, but if you’re still alive in your Survivor pool, we’ve reached the dog days of difficult picks.

Everybody was winning last week and my Survivor advice column was pretty straight forward. Once again all my safe and value picks hit, while my trap pick was far from it with the Broncos thumping the Saints on Thursday Night Football.

I survived another week, with the Jaguars and Bills winning for me in Week 7. And so, I’m back with more picks for Week 8. There are plenty of options to consider and every week this season we’ll be breaking down the safest picks, the best value picks, and the potential trap picks.

Safest picks

Lions over Titans

The Lions will be a popular pick this week against an atrocious Titans squad, and for good reason. If you’re in a pool that is light on competitors still alive, there’s nothing wrong with taking the safe pick.

Best value picks

Broncos over Panthers
Chargers over Saints

Denver does not have much value the rest of the season. They’ll be a popular pick this week, but it is a good time to use them if you want to save some bigger names.

Trap picks

Chiefs over Raiders
Ravens over Browns
Jets over Patriots

These could be fairly popular picks, but divisional road games are tricky. Kansas City and Baltimore are probably going to win, and could win easily, but I’d stay away. The Jets should win, but they’re a mess of a team.
