The NFL wrapped up Week 14 with an inter-conference showdown on Monday Night Football. The Los Angeles Chargers won an ugly one, beating the Philadelphia Eagles in overtime by a final score of 22-19 that featured eight turnovers between the two teams. It was fitting that the game ended on a Jalen Hurts interception. He threw four in the game, and appears to have become the first player in NFL history to have two turnovers on the same play. The Chargers improved to 9-4 with the win, while the Eagles dropped to 8-5.
Los Angeles Chargers playoff picture
The Chargers remain in second place in the AFC West, but have climbed into fifth place in the overall standings. Their playoff chances increased to 80% with the loss, according to The Athletic’s playoff simulator. They were at 67% prior to the victory.
The Chargers are still alive in the division race, but will need a Broncos collapse. LA is three games back of Denver with four games remaining in the regular season. They face off in Week 18, but that game won’t matter for the division if the Broncos don’t lose at least two games before then.
The Chargers remain alive in the division race, but still need some help. LA travels to Denver in Week 18, but they need another Broncos loss before then to give that game meaning in the division race. Next week, the Chargers travel to face the Chiefs while the Broncos host the Packers.
The Chargers are tied with the Bills in the wild card standings but get the edge based on the conference record tiebreaker. The two teams don’t face off this season, so it will come down to conference record if they remain tied. LA has a one game lead in that tiebreaker. Next week, the Bills travel to face the Patriots.
Philadelphia Eagles playoff picture
The Eagles remain atop the NFC East standings and in third place overall in the NFC in spite of the loss. Their playoff chances remain at 93% according to The Athletic’s playoff simulator. They were at 96% prior to the loss.
The Eagles remain in control of the division, but they’ve left the door open for the Cowboys. Dallas needs a lot of help to have a shot at the division, but Philly’s loss in LA is a step in the right direction for the Cowboys. Next week, the Eagles host the Raiders while the Cowboys host the Vikings. The NFC East teams are both favorites in their matchups.
The Eagles remain behind the Rams and Packers, but they do have the tiebreakers in their favor. They beat both the Rams and Packers, so if they were to finish in a tie with either team, they would get the edge. The Packers have a tie on their record, so a tie is unlikely. Next week, the Rams host the Lions while the Packers travel to face the Broncos.
