Nef the Pharaoh has been getting his Sam Presti on lately, mixing and matching rappers from up and down the West Coast for primetime horseplay. In September, the Vallejo native gathered L.A. crooners 03 Greedo and Wallie the Sensei and Sacramento ol’ reliable ShooterGang Kony to get in their Cash Money bag. Later, on “The One,” he recruited the chillest MCs in Oakland to do their gentle gigg. Now, with “D.O.A.,” he sticks to his homebase, calling Magic4zz and Isaac5 up to the big leagues. It’s a hell of a stylistic fusion as the trio bring essential Bay Area rap styles to the plate over a house-party-ready slap. You have Magic4zz’s timeless sing-rap swag, followed by Isaac5 doing the hushed mean-mugging that might bring you back to the days of Keak Da Sneak. Nef is with it all, getting off flows on top of flows that veer between the cold-blooded Northern California rap of the 2020s and hyphy nostalgia. He’s on a posse-cut hot streak.
