Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season is finally here and opening weekend will continue on Friday with the Los Angeles Chargers meeting the Kansas City Chiefs in Brazil at 8 p.m. ET on YouTube.
The Chargers are entering the second year of Jim Harbaugh’s tenure and are hoping to take a step forward this season after falling to the Texans in last year’s AFC Wild Card round. The team brought in a few new faces to the offense this offseason, one of which being veteran running back Najee Harris. According to FantasyPros, he enters the season with an ADP (average draft position) in the 40’s of all scoring formats, so fantasy managers have tabbed him as a solid backup option heading into the new year.
Below, we’ll go over Harris’ outlook in fantasy football for Week 1.
Fantasy Football analysis: Chargers RB Najee Harris
Harris signed a one-year deal with the Chargers in the offseason and is expected to split carries with first-round rookie running back Omarion Hampton this year. The former Steeler workhorse suffered an eye injury due to a fireworks accident in July, opening the door for Hampton to get starter reps throughout training camp in his absence. Still, Harris was able to return to practice just in time for the regular season and he is in line to see plenty of action on Friday regardless of who gets the start.
Start or sit in Week 1 standard/PPR leagues?
Start. Los Angeles running backs are poised to get plenty of work under offensive coordinator Greg Roman’s run-heavy scheme and that means Harris will most likely split carries with Hampton on Friday. Conventional wisdom suggests that Hampton will eventually cement himself as RB1 in L.A. this season but for now at least, Harris will hold the edge in carries. He could be a decent Flex option in Week 1, especially if you also have his rookie counterpart that you can stack with him.
