NAACP Image Awards 2026 Trend: Black & White Style

Black and white dressing turned into the night’s unofficial theme at the 57th NAACP Image Awards at Pasadena Civic Auditorium on Saturday night, where graphic appliqués, feathered accents, and high-drama necklines abounded. While there were pops of color on the red carpet, stars like Keke Palmer, Teyana Taylor, Halle Bailey, and Chlöe Bailey all committed to to the monochromatic, textural trend.

Keke Palmer leaned into Old Hollywood style in a white Miss Sohee Spring 2026 couture gown. The liquid-satin finish dress featured crystal-trimmed straps, a softly ruched bodice and a bias-cut skirt that opened into a sweeping train. Voluminous feather cuffs at each hip added height and texture.

Teyana Taylor continued her couture run in a black Ashi Studio spring 2026 gown. The strapless dress featured a scooped, sculpted neckline and dense draping through the torso that pooled into a long train behind her, with a front slit on the skirt.

Halle Bailey dialed up the graphic theme in a Stéphane Rolland spring 2023 couture gown that combined volume with sharp contrast. The black dress featured a plunging V-neckline framed by oversized, cloud-like shoulders, while the front featured an abstract trail of white appliqués.

Chlöe Bailey took a more directional route in a black Christian Siriano fall 2026 ready-to-wear gown built on sheer nude panels. The off-the-shoulder bodice featured a folded, winged neckline and graphic cutouts that continued into a skirt scattered with oversized petal appliqués.

Tyla opted for a black slip dress with a scoop neck. She accessorized the minimalistic, lingerie-coded dress with a stacked choker and Christian Louboutin Rosalie Jewel sandals.

The 57th NAACP Image Awards return Saturday, Feb. 28, with Deon Cole hosting live from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium at 8 p.m. ET/PT on BET, plus a CBS simulcast. The show spotlights Black excellence across film, television, music and literature — and this year’s top races have plenty to track, from Entertainer of the Year nominees Cynthia Erivo, Doechii, Kendrick Lamar, Michael B. Jordan and Teyana Taylor to nomination leaders “Sinners” and “Bel-Air.” Viola Davis and Colman Domingo will also be honored with the Chairman’s and President’s Awards.
