Mindy Kaling added a shimmering twist to a classic wardrobe staple for her appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Wednesday in Los Angeles. Kaling chatted with the eponymous late-night talk show host about a wealth of topics, ranging from her kids’ birthdays to her forthcoming Netflix series “Running Point” starring Kate Hudson.
For the occasion, Kaling opted for a black dress with a sparkling skirt and a bustier style bodice courtesy of Nadine Merabi. The high-waisted skirt of the frock featured allover sequin and beadwork, complete with a semi-sheer element and black base skirt beneath.

The high-waisted element of the skirt featured an A-line silhouette. The bodice of the dress included thin straps with beaded detailing as well. The bustier construction of the bodice featured semi-exposed boning and accentuated cups on the bust.
The entire ensemble put a contemporary spin on the classic little black dress. Kaling accessorized the look with a few pieces of jewelry, including rings, a bracelet and statement earrings. She topped off the look with pointed-toe black heels.

Kaling recently collaborated with stylist Erin Walsh on a few of her looks. For her Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony on Feb. 18, Kaling wore another iteration on the little black dress. The former “The Office” star and writer wore a sleek black dress with a peplum element courtesy of New Arrivals.
The producer and writer also wore shoes by Jimmy Choo and jewelry courtesy of Dena Kemp, Rahaminov Diamonds and Kendall Row. Walsh has also styled Kaling in looks courtesy of Balmain and Ashi Studio, the latter of which Kaling wore to present at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards.

Kaling isn’t the only star to style variations on the classic little black dress. In May 2024, Sydney Sweeney styled a standout iteration of the wardrobe staple by wearing a look from Miu Miu’s fall 2024 ready-to-wear collection. The little black dress featured exposed hips with cutouts on the dress.
