Who doesn’t love a little warm ball of anger and independence? Cats are fantastic pets because they don’t feel love or radiate loyalty in the way a stinky dog does. Whenever I’m out interacting with humans, there’s nothing I want to do more than run home and hang out with the cat. I don’t recommend driving home from a bar drunk at 130 miles per hour to rub noses with your American Wirehair, but I would be lying if I said it wasn’t a totally relatable offense. According to NBC Connecticut, a Norwich, Connecticut man was arrested on Sunday morning, according to state police, for that very thing.
When the dedicated cat dad passed a police officer on Interstate 395 South near exit 11 in Norwich, he was allegedly traveling at more than double the posted speed limit. During the traffic stop the driver explained to police that he was in a hurry to get home and see his cat. According to police reports, the man was suspected to be under the influence of alcoholic beverages, as his eyes appeared glossy and his speech was slurred. The cat man was subjected to a field sobriety test, which he allegedly failed.
The man has been charged with reckless driving and illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence. After paying the $500 bond he was released to go home and finally see his cat. He’ll be missing his cat even more when he is scheduled to appear in court on February 6.
This man definitely wanted to see his cat more than his cat wanted to see him, but perhaps the most prudent move would have been to call a rideshare. No matter how much you miss your cat, you should probably obey the laws of the road and not put yourself and others in danger. Your cat’s nonchalance about your presence can wait.
