Lucy Liu Wears Santoni Platform Sandals to ‘Rosemead’ Premiere

Lucy Liu’s all-black look at the “Rosemead” premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival balanced sculptural shape with soft detailing — pairing platform sandals and saturated accessories with scattered floral appliqués.

The actor arrived at New York’s SVA Theater in black Santoni heels featuring a high block heel and peep-toe platform silhouette with crisscross vamp straps. The structured sandal shape added height beneath the floor-length gown with a heel hidden by the gown, grounding the sheer, embroidered layers.

Their matte finish aligned with the gown’s soft tulle overlay, offering contrast to the precise strap placement and bold proportions. The silhouette marked a grounded shift from the pearl-heeled Chanel Mary Janes Liu wore earlier in the week.

Liu’s dress, styled by Lee Harris, came from Monique Lhuillier and featured white and yellow daisy appliqués scattered across a square-neck bodice and full black tulle skirt. A coordinating sheer cape, also embroidered with white daisies with yellow centers, was worn open across the shoulders, adding dimension and a pop of whimsy to the look.

She carried a rectangular clutch by Judith Leiberny in a vibrant yellow hue, injecting color into the ensemble. Jewelry by Lorraine Schwartz was kept minimal, with a single gold ring visible on one hand. Her hair, styled by Lona Vigi was parted to the side and worn in loose waves, while makeup by Roxanne Rizzo emphasized a luminous finish and neutral lip. Tailoring was handled by Matthew Kilgore.

Liu’s shoes also coincide with a major retail moment for Santoni. The Italian label recently opened a new flagship store on Madison Avenue, just a few blocks north of its previous location. Designed by Patricia Urquiola, the two-level boutique includes a bespoke workshop, marble-accented interiors and expanded women’s collections — including styles like the Marta slingback and crystal-detailed accessories. U.S. sales in the women’s category rose 18 percent last year.

“Rosemead,” directed by Eric Lin and based on a harrowing true story, follows Irene (played by Lucy Liu), a terminally ill Chinese‑immigrant mother who uncovers her teenage son’s disturbing obsession with mass violence.
