LeBron and Bronny James made history this week as the first father-son duo to play in an NBA game together. It was quite a moment for the sport and LeBron, even if poor Bronny isn’t very good (the man played three minutes, didn’t record a basket and had one rebound.) Still, it was cool to see. To celebrate the moment, Nike released an ad earlier in the day featuring the two James men – and a little rookie hazing.
The video – posted by LeBron on Twitter – starts off with the GOAT (argue with a wall) pouring cereal into the sunroof of a car with a Bugs Bunny-ass smile on his face. He hears Bronny coming and runs away. From there, we see Bronny open the door to his grey Lamborghini Urus and a hell of a lot of Fruity Pebbles falls out. The camera pans over the elder James in the back of a black-over-silver Maybach, and he rolls the window down.
“Hey rook, you better not be late,” LeBron says to his son. “Hey, clean up my driveway. It’s a mess.”
Bronny responds, “Yo! You’re too old for this.” He’s got a point, LeBron will be 40 in December – making him the oldest player currently in the NBA.
I know this is certainly fake and a bit silly, but I don’t know I liked it. We’ve never seen anything like this in the NBA before, and it’s fun to see the duo having fun with it. I’ve also got to give a shout-out to the car casting in this commercial. I don’t know if these are actually their cars, but the Urus and the Maybach are perfect for these two.
