Las Vegas Aces cut standout forward amid training camp

The Las Vegas Aces have cut forward Jordyn Jenkins, a 6’0 forward who spent her career at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Jenkins marks the Aces’ first roster cut since the beginning of training camp.

The Washington native averaged 19.2 points on 48.2% shooting in her three seasons at UTSA.

In Connecticut, three players have already been cut: Creighton guard Morgan Maly, Princeton guard Abbey Hsu, and Colorado forward Mya Hollingshed.

Where the Las Vegas Aces stand after roster cuts

As it currently stands, 6 Aces players are on guaranteed deals:

  1. Dana Evans (guard, protected veteran)
  2. Chelsea Gray (guard, protected veteran)
  3. Jewell Loyd (guard, protected veteran)
  4. A’ja Wilson (forward, protected veteran)
  5. Jackie Young (guard, protected veteran)
  6. Kierstan Bell (forward, protected rookie)

In addition, 10 players are on non-guaranteed deals.

  1. Megan Gustafson (center, unprotected)
  2. Tiffany Mitchell (guard, unprotected)
  3. Kiah Stokes (center, unprotected)
  4. Aaliyah Nye (rookie guard)
  5. Harmoni Turner (rookie guard)
  6. Crystal Bradford (forward, training camp deal)
  7. Queen Egbo (center, training camp deal)
  8. Deja Kelly (rookie guard)
  9. Jordyn Jenkins (rookie forward)
  10. Cheyenne Parker-Tyus (forward, training camp deal)

In effect, that means 10 players are competing for 5-6 roster spots, though several (like Mitchell and Parker-Tyus) seem shoo-ins to make the final roster.

The Las Vegas Aces’ preseason begins on Friday

The Aces begin preseason action on Friday, May 2nd, when they’ll host the Dallas Wings. That game could be an opportunity for some of the players who are on unprotected contracts to show what they’re capable of.

Already, Evans (knee) and Gustafson (lower leg) have been ruled out due to injury, the team announced on Thursday.

Teams have until May 15 to finalize their rosters — and the Aces remaining roster cuts are expected to take place in the coming weeks.
