Jesus Guerrero, a celebrated hairstylist, died suddenly over the weekend. He was 34.
Guerrero was abroad for a job when he began feeling unwell. He returned to the U.S., where he passed away in the hospital due to complications from pneumonia, according to social media posts.
Born and raised in Houston, Guerrero has made a name for himself in the beauty industry, creating memorable looks for Hollywood’s biggest stars. He’s best known for his work with Kylie Jenner, a client and friend since 2019, as well as Jennifer Lopez, Demi Moore, Charli XCX, Lisa, Katy Perry, Shay Mitchell, Jessica Alba and Rosalía.
“You don’t know how much I’m going to miss you,” posted Rosalía on her Instagram in Spanish, writing, “no sabes cuanto t[e] voy a extrañar.”
“Jesus — you were the purest, biggest heart and soul shined so bright — will cherish memories forever…Still can’t believe this,” wrote Alba.
Kim Kardashian wrote: “Our great respect for the art of hair and make up has [led] us to meeting some of the kindest souls and made some of our bestest friends. So when one of our glam family members passes away all of our souls are crushed. My heart breaks for Kylie and everyone who loved Jesus the way we all did. I’m praying for his family, his loved ones and the whole beauty community who feels this deep loss of one of the most talented and kindest to ever do it!”
Guerrero worked closely with Jenner’s makeup artist, Ariel Tejada, who shared in an Instagram post: “Last night I experienced the most painful, breath taking pain I have ever felt when I found out you left us. Family is not always just assigned at birth sometimes they are chosen and you were my chosen family.”
Guerrero’s sister, Gris, confirmed the news in a GoFundMe post on Saturday. “It is with a heavy heart that we let the world know that Jesus Guerrero has gone to heaven. He is a son, a brother, an uncle, an artist, a friend, and so much more. Born and raised in Houston, TX to immigrant parents, Jesus learned how to work hard and dreamt of taking his skills to the top. Unfortunately, his passing came very suddenly and unexpectedly. Currently, his family is taking care of his personal belongings and accommodations to bring him home to Houston.”
The GoFundMe has surpassed its goal of raising $80,000, collecting $93,210 to date.
Guerrero’s agency, The Wall Group, posted on its Instagram: “Jesus was a beloved artist, friend, and a special soul whose kindness and craft profoundly touched the lives of many. We are heartbroken and devastated by this tragic loss. His time with us was cut too short, but his lasting impact on the industry is immense and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.”
“Jesus was an artist whose talent was only surpassed by his humility and kindness,” hairstylist Jen Atkin told WWD in a statement. “His work ethic was inspiring and he was truly cherished by all who had the joy of knowing him. He brought not only beauty to the world but also a positive spirit that uplifted everyone around him. His legacy of passion, generosity, and kindness will continue to inspire us every day. I will miss his smile and spirit dearly.”
