Go baroque or go home. Louisiana State University women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey was shooting for attention on Friday at the Sweet Sixteen round of the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament. And attention she had in an Alice + Olivia outfit as the team defeated North Carolina State, 80-73.

Mulkey chose the brand’s Emerson jacket and matching jeans—both done in black denim with ornate gold embroidery. A+O’s military jacket, which retails for $995, had a mock neck and cropped silhouette with gold baroque embellishments that were featured around the arms and bodice, and beadwork flourished throughout.

The sartorial drama didn’t end there. Mulkey coordinated with the SB mid-rise flared bell bottom jeans designed with gold embroidery that climbed the legs. Retailing for $895, the brand describes it as founder Stacey Bendet’s “personal favorite pair” designed with stretchy denim that will “compliment your bum.” She accessorized with a sparkling gold watch and rings, and mirrored platforms set on ice pick heels.

The look went viral. “Kim Mulkey Sweet 16 outfit” showed a 3,950 percent increase in Google searches overnight. Netizens compared the look to Michael Jackson’s style.
Mulkey has a history of attention-grabbing looks on the court. She often chooses whimsical designs from the Queen of Sparkles brand, bringing polka dots, glitter and rhinestones to LSU game days.
