As the vision for Skims’ beauty business comes into focus, the company has hired a new executive vice president of beauty and fragrance.
Diarrha N’Diaye will lead product development and brand strategy for the fast-growing brand, effective Monday.
N’Diaye, who previously worked at Glossier and L’Oréal, most recently founded Ami Colé, the inclusive makeup brand she launched in 2021. She revealed she would be winding down the business earlier this year. That brand was intended to bring the no-makeup-makeup aesthetic to deeper skin tones and all races.
“I want Skims Beauty to be a place where everyone feels represented, and there is no better person to help us do that than Diarrha,” said Kim Kardashian, cofounder and chief creative officer of Skims, in a statement. “She has an incomparable talent at marrying the emotional and tactical sides of beauty, and her instincts and experience for innovation and authenticity will power our brand.”
In the statement, N’Diaye said Kardashian was looking to bring to market “makeup classics and excitement about beauty rituals while also simplifying it and focusing on skin from strand to toe. My job is to figure out how we create this second-skin experience for the customer and bridge the gap from clothing to makeup, hair and fragrance.”
Skims had acquired Skkn by Kim, Kardashian’s most recent go at beauty, from Coty Inc. in March. That business entailed makeup and skin care, and terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“Diarrha’s modern and community-forward view on beauty aligns perfectly with the ambitions of Skims Beauty,” said cofounder and chief executive officer Jens Grede in the statement. “Her entrepreneurial background and ability to determine customers’ untapped beauty needs will be instrumental in driving forward our business.”
The business, at the time of its funding round in 2023, was valued at $4 billion. That was the same year it expanded into men’s, and later built out its brick-and-mortar footprint in tandem with product launches like its viral Seamless Sculpt Face Wrap and most recently, its Faux Hair Micro String Thong, which sold out in less than 24 hours.
