KidSuper’s Colm Dillane may have a soft spot in his heart for soccer, a game he played professionally earlier in his life, but that hasn’t stopped him from working with other sports. He’s thrown out the first pitch at a New York Mets game and has appeared on its shortstop, Francisco Lindor’s, podcast, and also worked with the NBA and the Brooklyn Nets.
Now the Brooklyn-based designer has created the official artwork for the Australian Open, a first for the tennis tournament.
Created in partnership with London-based print publisher Oditi, the limited-edition giclee print will be available beginning Tuesday at 6 p.m. Eastern time on the Oditi website. It will be available in three sizes and retail for $222, $350 or $690.
“Each piece comes with complimentary framing, a certificate of authenticity and is offered in three distinct sizes. The artwork will never be reissued, making each print a true collectible,” said Oditi cofounder Alexandre Daillance.
Oditi cofounder Harry Beard added: “KidSuper is one of the greatest creatives of our generation and the Australian Open is one of the most important sports tournaments in the world. I love old tennis artworks from the 1980s, but there hasn’t been much that stood out to me since that period. We hope that this piece becomes a classic.”
The Australian Open, founded in 1905, is the first Grand Slam of the tennis season. Held every January in Melbourne, Novak Djokovic holds the men’s record with 10 titles and Margaret Court has the women’s record with 11 titles.
Oditi has also partnered with the Paris Saint-Germain soccer club and artists including Slawn, Sean Wotherspoon and Reuben Dangoor. KidSuper, a winner of the Karl Lagerfeld Prize, has collaborated with a wide variety of brands and companies including Puma, Bape, Mattel and a range of others.
