Kering Eyewear Launches Lindberg’s First Sun Collection Since Acquisition

MILAN Lindberg is launching its first sun collection developed since its acquisition by Kering Eyewear.

Available starting in March, the spring 2025 sun collection was unveiled at Kering Eyewear’s latest sales event in Milan, held at the same time as, but outside of eyewear trade show Mido, which ran Feb. 8 to 10.

Roberto Vedovotto, founder, president and chief executive officer of Kering Eyewear, told WWD that the aim was to “create an immersive experience that truly highlights the essence of our eyewear. We designed a dedicated setup to celebrate the interplay of light, color and innovation — bringing to life the vibrancy of our new sun lenses and the effortless sophistication of our designs. It was a tribute to the fusion of technology and aesthetics that defines Lindberg.”

Following the release of Kering Eyewear 2024 sales last week, which reached a record revenue of 1.6 billion euros, a 6 percent increase on 2023 on a comparable basis, Vedovotto said he was “proud of how we ended the year of our 10th anniversary. Amid a challenging market environment and uncertain industry dynamics, we were able to strengthen our leading position in the luxury eyewear segment.”

In the fourth quarter, Kering Eyewear revenues totaled 326 million euros, a gain of 8 percent, driven by all regions as well as the main brands in its portfolio.

Kering Eyewear also reported sound profitability, with a recurring operating incomeof  277 million euros, “leading to a solid margin of 17.5 percent,” Vedovotto noted.

Vedovotto said the sun collection “embodies our commitment to innovation, featuring an exclusive sun lens and a vibrant color palette inspired by Danish design and light.”

Key at Lindberg is “effortless luxury, unparalleled comfort, and a statement of individuality,” he continued, adding that the brand’s eyewear “should always blend comfort, craftsmanship and understated luxury. This collection is designed to seamlessly adapt to modern lifestyles, embodying minimalist elegance with a contemporary edge.”

Kering Eyewear took full control of Lindberg in July 2021. Founded in 1969 in Denmark by optician Poul-Jørn Lindberg and his wife as an optical store, their son Henrik Lindberg turned the family company into an international brand, widely recognized for its high-end manufacturing of design-oriented, lightweight, and customizable optical frames with a specialization in titanium.

Drawing inspiration from Olafur Eliasson’s iconic rainbow installation in Lindberg’s hometown of Aarhus, Denmark, the sun titanium is available in rich hues from rusty orange to jade green and turquoise. Each shade “has been carefully selected to bring a fresh, dynamic energy to our minimalistic aesthetic,” Vedovotto explained. “With this collection, we continue to push the boundaries of innovation while staying true to our Danish heritage, ensuring that each piece reflects our dedication to both functionality and beauty.”

Lindberg has developed and patented manufacturing techniques and innovations such as hypoallergenic, multiadjustable and screwless frames.

The sun collection extends Lindberg’s air titanium rim with its signature spiral hinge and n.o.w. titanium lines, with light, composite fronts.

The frames are precision-engineered with bold yet sleek details, the temples are wider, and the proportions are unisex.

Lindberg and Maui Jim, acquired in 2022, are complementary to the portfolio of Kering Eyewear brands, which range from Zeal Optics, CartierGucci, Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta and Balenciaga to Chloé, Alexander McQueen, Montblanc, Dunhill, Alaïa and Puma.

As reported, Maui Jim has inked a multiyear partnership with the Oracle Red Bull Racing team, starting with the 2025 Formula 1 season, during which the brand will supply its eyewear to the team. The initiative follows Maui Jim’s 2024 partnership with Red Bull Global Sports.
