IN THE BAG: Jisoo of the K-pop supergroup Blackpink is the face of Dior‘s latest handbag campaign. On Thursday, the French label unveiled the new Lady Dior advertising images shot by Bibi Borthwick.
The South Korean singer and actress appears dressed in black against a white background, touting different versions of the brand’s signature bag in a series of “graceful images suffused with rock vibes,” Dior said in a statement.
A medium-sized version is adorned with grommets and piercings that dangle little pearls, while another is covered with a web of metallic studs. A third features a silver metallic version of the brand’s signature cannage pattern.
First worn by Princess Diana in 1995, the bag has since been produced in a multitude of colors, sizes and materials.
Maria Grazia Chiuri, artistic director of women’s collections at Dior, has added new variants such as the Lady D-Lite and the Lady D-Joy, while leading artists have customized the handbag as part of the Lady Dior As Seen By and Dior Lady Art projects.
Jisoo, a global ambassador for Dior since 2019, last year appeared in a campaign for the Lady 95.22, a modernized take on the Lady Dior. She has also fronted advertisements for the label’s makeup and clothing.
Many French luxury brands have enlisted K-pop stars to draw audiences to their fashion shows and drive digital engagement. Jisoo’s presence at Dior’s fall 2024 ready-to-wear show in March brought in 20 percent of the brand’s overall media impact value, according to data research and insights company Launchmetrics.
Her Blackpink bandmates also have major fashion sponsorship deals, with Jennie representing Chanel, Rosé collaborating with Saint Laurent, and Lisa recently signing on as brand ambassador for Louis Vuitton.
