The New York Jets hope to avoid a dreaded 0-3 start in Week 3 when they travel to Tampa Bay to take on the 0-2 Buccaneers.
But they’ll be without starting quarterback Justin Fields on Sunday.
Fields left Sunday’s loss to the Buffalo Bills in the fourth quarter after a sack at the hands of Bills pass rusher Joey Bosa. The quarterback was initially evaluated on the sideline after the hit, but then left the field with the league’s unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant.
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn confirmed on Wednesday that Fields will be out for Sunday’s game.
The Jets quarterback finished the day having completed just 3-of-11 passes for 27 yards, while adding 49 rushing yards. New York trailed 30-3 when he left the game, and lost to the Bills by a final score of 30-10.
Veteran Tyrod Taylor, who came on in relief of the injured Fields, completed 7-of-11 passes for 56 yards and a touchdown in his limited action. His last start came in the regular-season finale of the 2023 campaign with the New York Giants, as he completed 23-of-32 passes for 297 yards and a touchdown, along with an interception, as the Giants defeated the Philadelphia Eagles.
Glenn confirmed when meeting with the media Wednesday that Taylor will get the start.
