Jordan Spieth note involving Scottie Scheffler will blow your mind

Once upon a time Jordan Spieth was going to win every single golf tournament he ever entered. It certainly felt that way, at least.

If you were following professional golf around 2014 and more specifically 2015 then you remember what this was like. Every moment felt bigger when Spieth was a part of it and it seemed like he was going to re-write the record books in the sport before was done.

Circumstances have really changed there, though. A while back I recall Kyle Porter noting in Normal Sport that if he’d told you when Jordan started the second 9 at The Masters in 2016 that a different Texas Longhorn would reach two green jackets before Jordan would… you never would have believed it. Scottie Scheffler has taken all of that aura from Jordan since he arrived, a phenomenon that coincided with Jordan’s play not being at that same stellar level.

Whatever the case, the duo find themselves both in contention entering Sunday at The Memorial. Scheffler, who also now has something Spieth doesn’t in a PGA Championship, has the outright lead entering the round and a five-shot lead on Spieth.

Before things got too out of hand there though, PGA TOUR’s Kevin Prise shared a note that is kind of wild to believe. Jordan has won only one Tour event with Scheffler in the field. One!

After this post Scottie would pick up two more strokes and Jordan would drop one which would make the idea of this list doubling in size a bit more difficult. But it is the list’s existence that is truly insane. Scottie’s ascension has happened quickly and Jordan obviously hasn’t won a ton over the last few years, but that Jordan has only won a singular event that Scottie was a part of was still a bit jarring to learn to be true.

Perhaps there will be some magic on Sunday that does indeed see the number rise. Time will tell.
