James Conner injury: Cardinals RB suffers ankle injury in Week 3

Arizona Cardinals running back James Conner suffered an apparent ankle injury in their Week 3 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday and has been ruled out for the rest of the game. The veteran was brought down on a combined tackle by 49ers safety Marques Sigle and defensive tackle Jordan Elliott in the third quarter and had to be carted off the field.

Conner had registered 73 rushing yards, 23 receiving yards, and two total touchdowns through two games prior to Sunday’s NFC West showdown and his potential absence will be a huge blow to the Arizona offense. The veteran entered this season coming off a 2024 campaign where he ran for a career-high 1,094 yards along with eight trips to the end zone on the ground. That was thanks in part to him actually starting a career-high 16 games as many of his seasons have involved him missing time due to injuries.

Trey Benson will assume the role of RB1 for the Cards in Conner’s absence while Emari Demarcado will presumably handle backup duties.

Note: This is a developing story that will be updated as more information becomes available regarding Conner’s status.
