Jacob & Co. Debuts New Patented Diamond Cut on Billionaire Double Tourbillon

INTO THE LIGHT: Don’t let the 79 carats of Jacob & Co.’s latest Billionaire Double Tourbillon blind you – the real novelty resides in the facets of the diamonds on the glittering timepiece.

Some 216 white diamonds, out of a total of 297, feature a new proprietary and patented diamond cut developed to mark the American luxury brand’s 40th anniversary.

Dubbed the Angel cut, it features 37 facets and a distinctive lozenge-shaped table, set within a stepped rectangular outline with cut corners. Two years in the making and named after Jacob Arabo’s wife of 37 years, Angela, the cut was developed to improve the light return on rectangular stones while preserving their elegance and yield, the brand said.

Although it has fewer facets than traditional diamond cuts, each is positioned to maximize optical performance and direct light to create “a visual effect that is at once crisp, fluid and unusually dimensional,” it added.

“We were not interested in creating another variation on an existing theme. It had to be a true invention—something more versatile, more radiant, and more refined,” said Arabo, founder and chairman of Jacob & Co. “The fact that the cut has 37 facets, coinciding with 37 years of marriage with my wife Angela, gave it an even deeper meaning for me personally.”

The diamonds take pride of place on the rectangular watch, which comes in a limited edition of 18 pieces. The design was first introduced in 2015 and has been offered with emerald- and Asscher-cut gemstones before.

Benjamin Arabov, chief executive officer of Jacob & Co., said it was a “deliberate decision” to launch the new diamond cut on a watch model that “has always been our most uncompromising expression of watchmaking and gem-setting.”

“When you develop a patented cut designed to redefine how a diamond interacts with light, it deserves a stage of equal intensity,” he said. “The Billionaire Double Tourbillon Angel Cut is not simply about rarity or carat weight. It is about invention, precision, symmetry, and the confidence to establish a new standard.”
