J.J. Spaun reveals Ryder Cup Captain Keegan Bradley move at U.S. Open

It clearly means a lot to Keegan Bradley to be affiliated with the Ryder Cup.

When it comes to the Ryder Cup all fans can understand this. There is nothing like the event, it is one of the biggest that the world of sports has to offer, and Keegan has worn his emotions on his sleeve about how near and dear to his heart the whole of it all is. His serving as the Captain for the American side is an incredible story and his stellar play of late that has vaulted him into contention to be a Playing Captain (he should be) adds to the “this feels like a movie” of it all.

Keegan’s place within the Ryder Cup is complicated in this sense, but at the very least his place within the event is certain and established. To date only Scottie Scheffler has fully qualified to join him, but we can use common sense to know other names who will decorate the United States team as well.

One player who will be donning the red, white and blue is the winner of the country’s national open. U.S. Open winner J.J. Spaun will be a part of the American crew who looks to defend home turf at Bethpage Black and in a recent appearance on Golf SubPar he discussed a move that Keegan made before the major championship that he won.

“It was actually cool. Keegan put a printed out picture of the U.S. Ryder Cup bag with my name on it. And he did it to all the other guys that were, potentially going to make the team at Oakmont. He put, ‘Bring your ego.’ and just put KB.”

“Stuck it in my locker and it was just something that, every time I opened my locker I saw it there. And every day. Open locker. See it there. And it was one of those things that just kind of kept being pinged into my brain… alright. Ryder Cup. Let’s go. Bring your ego.”

“I’m not an egotistical person, but I think that more tapped into my self-belief in myself.”

This is an all-time move from Keegan. What a flex from the Captain.

Obviously this is awesome coming from J.J. in that he won the U.S. Open, but it speaks to how much the Ryder Cup is constantly on Keegan’s mind. As sports fans this is the kind of thing we dream about. We want to believe that this means as much to the players, coaches, managers, staffers, etc. as it does to us as fans. This is clearly true for Keegan Bradley.

Beyond the level of passion… it is awesome that Keegan wants the Americans to “bring their ego.” The Ryder Cup is an event that is built so much on passion and intensity and he clearly wants that enveloping the team from the jump.

Simply put… this rules.
