Groovy, baby! Yeah! The Mecum Kissimmee auction in January will bring an iconic film car across the block in the form of Austin Powers’ 1967 Jaguar XK-E. Allegedly only one car was used for all three films in the Austin Powers franchise, which is quite rare in film production. So if there aren’t any other authentic so-called Shaguars out there, then this is your one and only opportunity to buy it. Pack your bags and head to Florida, and maybe you can get it for less than Dr. Evil’s “one million dollars.”
According to the seller, who worked for the studio, somebody won this car in a giveaway and he more or less traded a new minivan to them in order to keep the Jag for himself, because they didn’t want it. That seems like a fair trade. If anyone else would like a new minivan in exchange for a film-used Jaguar E-type, I will buy you whatever minivan you want.
The one-and-only Shaguar will be Mecum’s “Main Attraction” car for Saturday, January 18, and should garner some significant attention. The auction allegedly includes plenty of documentation confirming that this is the same car that was in the movies, though it has seen some restoration work by Jaguar Land Rover (in exchange for using the car as a promotional piece) after the movie series ended. Mecum claims the car has seen “comprehensive mechanical update” recently.
As you can see this is the less expensive 4.2-liter inline-six model instead of the desirable v12, but you still get that gorgeous long-nose sleek body, and because it’s a drop head, it’s much prettier than the fixed head coupe. I rather quite like the Union Jack motif on the car, even without the connotation of the hairy-chested 1997 film.
So, if you’re looking to be the center of attention wherever you go, you can bid on this Jag and head to your nearest cars and coffee, or report to your nearest time machine and head back to the 1970s.
