On Friday, the Indiana Fever announced they signed Chloe Bibby to a seven-day contract. And while it’s a temporary hardship contract, she might just be worth keeping around.
The Australian forward made her debut in a 93-78 win over the Chicago Sky, tallying 8 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 block in 11 minutes off the bench. She hit 2 of 4 three-pointers from beyond the arc, demonstrating she can provide both size and floor spacing to a Fever team that has seen players in and out of the lineup all year.
Bibby’s contract is a temporary one, and one that was granted to the Fever because star guard Caitlin Clark is out indefinitely with a groin injury she re-aggravated earlier this month.
And, she’s not new to the WNBA grind of battling for a roster spot; before signing with the Fever, Bibby played for the Golden State Valkyries for two stints — two games in preseason, and five during the regular season. Bibby averaged 6.4 points and 2.8 rebounds per game in the regular-season appearances, shooting 40.7% from the field and 42.1% from three.
Valkyries head coach Natalie Nakase raved about Bibby’s contributions and her ability to deliver from beyond the arc.
“Spacing the floor, that’s part of our philosophy, right?” Nakase told reporters. “So, she fits in really well with the fact that she’s a big that can space the floor. But then, on the other end, she’s really physical. She can get rebounds. Chloe is like a Swiss Army knife.”
What makes Bibby’s case particularly fascinating is that she’s a 27-year-old WNBA rookie. She graduated from Maryland in 2022, went undrafted, was invited to the Minnesota Lynx’s training camp, and played one game before being waived.
But she’s since had a decorated career overseas; Bibby was the Polish League MVP while with the AZS AJP Gorzow Wielkopolski in 2024, and MVP of the Liga Femenina de Baloncesto in Spain in 2025. Earlier this month, she helped lead Australia to a gold medal in the 2025 FIBA Women’s Asia World Cup.
Bibby’s contract is a temporary one, and the Fever are limited to just 12 rostered players. But, it may be worth figuring out if there’s a way to keep her around, because in just one stint, Bibby has already demonstrated her two-way impact in Indiana.
