Elon Musk has been a hypocritical son of a bitch for a long time now, but now that fact is being turned up a notch. A recent report from the Washington Post says Musk worked illegally in the United States while he was here on a student visa in the 1990s.
Musk arrived in Palo Alto, California in 1995 for a graduate program at Stanford, but he never actually enrolled in any classes. Instead, he worked at his startup, according to company documents, former business associates and court documents. President Joe Biden actually slammed Musk for his hypocrisy on immigration, according to the Associated Press, but Musk denies the allegations.
“That wealthiest man in the world turned out to be an illegal worker here. No, I’m serious. He was supposed to be in school when he came on a student visa. He wasn’t in school. He was violating the law. And he’s talking about all these illegals coming our way?” Biden said while campaigning on Saturday in Pittsburgh at a union hall.
In a post on X, Musk said he “was in fact allowed to work in the U.S.” Adding, “The Biden puppet is lying.”
Here’s the thing, though. It doesn’t seem like he was, as the AP explains:
Investors in Musk’s company, Zip2, were concerned about the possibility of their founder being deported, according to the report, and gave him a deadline for obtaining a work visa. The newspaper also cited a 2005 email from Musk to his Tesla co-founders acknowledging that he did not have authorization to be in the U.S. when he started Zip2.
According to the account, that email was submitted as evidence in a now-closed California defamation lawsuit and said that Musk had applied to Stanford so he could stay in the country legally.
Musk, who was born in South Africa, is the world’s richest man, and he’s given Donald Trump’s campaign over $70 million through his America PAC. Trump has been using dangerous and harmful rhetoric when talking about immigrants for years. It’s no surprise Musk is jumping in on this action now, and it’s even less surprising that he’s a hypocrite about his stances and lying about his past.
Should Trump win on November 5, the former President has pledged to give Musk a role in his administration, and I’m sure that’ll go really well.
