How will Trump’s policies affect US science?

In the ten weeks since US President Donald Trump reoccupied the White House, his administration has profoundly transformed science in the United States. The government is shutting down research programmes and blocking work on a vast array of topics, from climate to COVID-19. It has fired thousands of federal employees, including scientists, and has sought to exert control over universities. The president and the heads of various science agencies have promised that many more changes are coming, including sharp reductions in research funding and further lay-offs at federal agencies. In some cases, officials have suggested that government funds will be reinvested in certain areas of science.
