It pays to be a Philadelphia Eagles player today. Not only did the team of head coach Nick Sirianni celebrate a dominant victory over the Kansas City Chiefs to claim Super Bowl LIX, the players also earned themselves a nice payday along the way — a payday that is taking multiple shapes.
Let’s therefore take a look at three ways the Eagles made themselves quite a bit of money thanks to their 40-22 win on Sunday night.
How much Eagles get paid for Super Bowl win
Every contract in the NFL has one thing in common: there is no mention of salaries for the playoffs, including the Super Bowl. That is because the league considers postseason participation separately from regular season play, which in turn means that players are compensated through bonuses rather than a typical in-season salary.
Those bonuses can take two forms: the league itself awards players for reaching a certain playoff round, while teams can individually give out postseason bonuses to their players. For now, let’s focus on the first part and what it means for the Eagles in the aftermath of their win over the Chiefs.
According to the NFL-NFLPA Collective Bargaining Agreement signed in 2020, each member of the winning team will receive up to $171,000.
That number is not the same for every player, though. Players only receive the full bonus sum if they a) have appeared in at least three games this season and are on the active or inactive list, b) have appeared in at least eight games this season and are not on the active or inactive list but not signed to another team either, and c) are a veteran player who is not on the active or inactive list but still under contract with the team.
Players who do not meet those requirements but certain other playing time and experience thresholds are entitled to 50 percent of the $171,000 bonus (i.e. $85,500). The money will be paid out to players within 15 days of the Super Bowl.
The Chiefs, by the way, also get compensated for their participation in the Super Bowl. Their players get either $96,000 or $48,000 depending on whether they meet the requirements for full payout or not.
What Super Bowl win means for Jalen Hurts’ contract
As noted above, teams are individually permitted to reach agreements with their players on how to compensate them for postseason participation and playoff success. One such player is Jalen Hurts.
The MVP of Super Bowl LIX got a sizable salary bump as a result of Sunday’s win: according to Dan Graziano of ESPN, Hurts’ salary for the 2025 season increased by $500,000.
What Super Bowl win means for Saquon Barkley’s contract
Running back Saquon Barkley had a comparatively quiet day against the Chiefs, totaling 97 yards on 31 touches. It still was a lucrative one for Barkley, who turned 28 on Sunday.
When the Eagles signed him to a three-year, $37.75 million free agency contract in March, they embedded a pair of $250,000 incentives into his deal: one for making the Super Bowl, and one for winning it. He cashed the first of those checks two weeks ago in the NFC Championship Game, and has now earned the second for a total of $500,000.
How Super Bowl performance impacts Eagles’ free agents
The Eagles are, obviously, in celebration mode right now. Like the rest of the NFL, however, they are now also in the offseason — one that will see several of their players head into free agency.
According to Over The Cap, a total of 19 of their players are in need of new contracts, including four starters whose deals are about to void: offensive lineman Mekhi Becton, edge defenders Josh Sweat and Brandon Graham, and linebacker Zack Baun.
While Philadelphia re-signing all of them is a possibility, the team has a projected salary cap space of only $18.8 million, 21st in the league. Josh Sweat in particular seems to have made himself quite a bit of money Sunday with his 2.5-sack performance.
The same is true for defensive tackle Milton Williams, who registered two sacks and is set to become an unrestricted free agent in mid-March.
