Here’s How Celebrities Are Supporting Wildfire Relief in Los Angeles

Halle Berry donated her “entire closet” to wildfire relief. The actress shared that she would be donating her wardrobe to those affected by the L.A. fires, in a post on Instagram, writing, “I’m packing up my entire closet and heading over to the COOP! If you live in the Southern California area, I urge you to do the same. This is something we can do right now today to help all of the displaced families that are in need of the basics today!”

Berry thanked Sharon Stone for her leadership in organizing and amplifying the platform of Coop, a home goods store that has repurposed itself as a hub for donations in the wake of the fires. “Love you Lady” she wrote on Instagram, adding, “I’m from Meadville, Pennsylvania, and a famous quote from Margaret Meade says never forget that a group of thoughtful committed citizens can make a difference.”

Berry also shared a video of Coop’s offerings for victims of the wildfires, writing, “As you all know, the unimaginable happened this week but we’re coming together as a community to ensure displaced families have the resources they need during this unprecedented time. I’m at @shopcoopla today as we’re bagging clothes and toys for families that were impacted by the wildfires. We even have drivers with @uber who can deliver items to your home! Please share this post to spread the word to family and friends in need!”

Sharon Stone was part of the organizing committee behind Coop, a home goods store on Beverly that has been repurposed into a relief distribution center, offering gently used clothes, shoes, toys, bedding, and more to those affected by the L.A. wildfires. “The Coop – Please come if you were displaced from the fire,” she wrote on Instagram, posting a video of the relief center’s offerings.

Stone has also been opening up her home to those who’ve been displaced by the fires. “I’ve been taking friends into my home,” she said in an interview with NewsNation. “I have families coming out to move in with us and we’re just setting up. We’re setting up a place to be able to help people. We’re setting up beds and just room in the house… I think all that we can do as people who are in a safe place is give back, especially to those who have lost everything.”

Charli XCX is also using her platform to encourage donations to relief for the wildfires. The music artist made a request specifically from brands that in lieu of gifting her items, companies can send them as donations to those affected by the fires. “As a person in the public eye I am often being sent clothes and other things by brands wanting to gift me something,” the music artist wrote in a note posted to Instagram Stories. “This is very kind and sweet but I want to encourage brands to give to people who really truly need it. Any brands reading this please donate to those who have been tragically affected by these horrific L.A. fires.”

Charli XCX also encouraged her followers to bring and send donation items an ongoing drive for families who lost their homes in Los Angeles due to the fires. “I’ll be donating things here for families in need,” Charli XCX wrote atop a list of clothing items for babies, children, and adults. “Any brands/friends reading do what you can.”

Paris Hilton has launched an emergency fund for wildfire relief, via her 11:11 Media Impact nonprofit. The multi-hyphenate, who lost her Malibu home in the Palisades fire, initially donated $100,000 to the fund and plans to match another $100,000 in donations. “My heart is with everyone impacted by the devastating fires here in LA,” Hilton wrote on Instagram, adding, “While I’ve lost my Malibu home, my thoughts are with the countless families who have lost so much more — their homes, cherished keepsakes, the communities they loved, and their sense of stability.”

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry helped out in Altadena and Pasadena on Friday, Dec. 10, distributing supplies and food at chef José Andrés’ nonprofit World Central Kitchen, alongside volunteers and Pasadena mayor Victor M. Gordo. Markle and Harry also met with Altadena residents who lost their homes to the fire, to offer support. “They want to be as helpful as they can be,” Gordo later told Fox 11. “We visited with some of the affected families in some of the burned-out areas in Pasadena and Altadena. They took the time to meet the people that are affected and spent time. They’re just very caring people who are concerned for their friends and neighbors.”

The couple gave their thanks to L.A. County firefighters and other first responders as well during a visit to the command center at the Rose Bowl, where they “really buoyed the spirits of the first responders” and “people were very happy to see them,” according to Gordo.

Jennifer Garner also helped distribute meals to those who’ve been affected by the wildfires. Garner teamed up with José Andrés and the chef’s nonprofit World Central Kitchen to offer meals in Altadena from the food truck Dulan’s Soul Food Kitchen. While on-site, the actress shared that the nonprofit Save the Children, which she’s an ambassador for, has plans to help kids and parents in shelters, socially and emotionally in the wake of the fires.
