Two of France’s most iconic brands, Guerlain and Hennessy, have teamed up to release a new edition of the classic men’s fragrance Habit Rouge to mark the 60th anniversary of its inception.
The brainchild of Delphine Jelk, Guerlain director of perfume creation, and Renaud Fillioux de Gironde, Hennessy’s master blender, the new limited-edition Habit Rouge Spirit was produced by blending the parfum after it soaked for weeks in two barrels — one that contained cognac for 10 years and the other untouched. The process helps Guerlain’s fragrance to absorb the barrel’s wood essence and transform it into a unique combination of notes.

The new scent includes bergamot with a spicy leathery heart, blending powdery iris with notes of nutmeg and deep woody oak barrel notes. The fragrance is encased in a sturdy rectangular glass vessel topped by a striking red wood cap, and is available at select retailers for $200.
Originally released in 1965, Habit Rouge features woody and leather notes, and balanced by the warm sweetness of vanilla and earthy patchouli.

Beauty brand Guerlain was founded in Paris in 1828 and Hennessy, a leading cognac brand, began crafting the spirit in the Charente region in 1765. LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton is the parent company of the brands, acquiring Guerlain in 1994 and Hennessy in 1987.
The collaboration comes after Loewe’s departing creative director Jonathan Anderson partnered on a collection with Hennessy in March. With Anderson, the spirits brand expanded its Paradis cognac into 3 liters in a decanter-shaped bottle and leather case, belt and neck clip, as well as two glasses and a pipette.
