Golden State Valkyries sign former South Carolina star

The Golden State Valkyries have signed Bree Hall to a seven-day contract, the team announced on Wednesday. Hall, who was drafted 20th overall by the Indiana Fever in April, has already been waived twice this season — first by the Fever in May, and then by the Valkyries in June after she spent nearly two weeks with the organization.

But now, in the wake of injuries, Hall gets another opportunity with Golden State nearly two months after she was last in the Bay Area.

The Valkyries currently have three players out with injury and two who are day-to-day: Kayla Thornton (knee surgery), Cecilia Zandalasini (calf), and Monique Billings (ankle) are all out, while guards Carla Leite and Tiffany Hayes are both day-to-day.

Golden State, like many WNBA teams, has already benefited tremendously from players on hardship contracts; Kaila Charles, who the Valkyries added in August on a seven-day contract, led the way with 16 points and 6 rebounds in a win against the Dallas Wings on Sunday.

What Bree Hall brings to the Valkyries

The former Gamecock guard averaged 5.8 points and 2.3 rebounds per game in her four-year career at the University of South Carolina. She shot 38.3% from three in her senior year and was deemed by head coach Dawn Staley one of the best defenders she’s ever coached.

From the jump, she should be someone who can defend and space the floor. Hall appeared in two games with the Valkyries earlier this summer, tallying 3 points in 8 minutes. She’ll be available for the Valkyries’ Saturday game against the Washington Mystics.
