German soccer match cancelled after child bites referee’s testicle

A story out of Germany is so unbelievable that we’d never think it was real, except for the fact that soccer has a way of continually churning out the strangest moments in sports.

Over the weekend a match between FC Taxi Duisburg II and SV Rot-Weiss Mülheim in the German eighth division had to be cancelled after a small child on the field ran up to referee Stefan Kahler and bit his testicle — causing enough pain that he wasn’t able to continue.

The incident occurred while Kahler was doing his typical pre-game ID check of the players, common in low-division soccer to ensure everyone is who they claim to be. Then it happened …

“While I was checking the FC Taxi players’ ID, a small child was doing warm-up exercises alongside the players. He came closer and closer to me, then suddenly – to my complete surprise – gave me a sharp bite in my left testicle,” Kahler said in a report obtained by the outlet.

Kahler went on to say that he couldn’t start the game because of the pain he was in, and that the match would have to be rescheduled for a later date. It’s unclear whether Kahler has the balls to try to officiate it a second time.

There’s no word why the child, reportedly belonging to an FC Taxi player, has been trained to bite testicles like a police dog.
