George Kittle injury: 49ers tight end tears Achilles vs. Eagles

The San Francisco 49ers have been hampered by injuries throughout the 2025 NFL season.

Now that the playoffs have arrived, that trend sadly seems to be continuing.

In the first half of Sunday’s NFC Wild Card game against the Philadelphia Eagles, star tight end George Kittle went down after making a catch along the sideline, and remained on the field for an extended period of time. He was then taken off the field at Lincoln Financial Field on a cart.

Speculation grew on social media that Kittle had perhaps suffered a torn Achilles’, however, that is just speculation at this point:

The injury came on Kittle’s first catch of the contest. After taking the cart off the field, Kittle was seen hopping on one foot into the San Francisco locker room.

Shortly thereafter, 49ers owner Jed York, along with Claire Kittle, walked into the locker room appearing “visibly somber” according to Dianna Russini:

San Francisco quickly ruled Kittle out for the rest of the game:

Update: Reports emerged later that Kittle had indeed suffered a torn Achilles:

Kittle was one of the many 49ers who dealt with injuries during the 2025 season. The tight end played in 11 games this season, missing significant time after injuring his hamstring in San Francisco’s season-opening win over the Seattle Seahawks.

In those 11 games, Kittle caught 57 passes for 628 yards and 7 touchdowns.
