Frontex Launches Procurement for Enhanced Border Surveillance with Tactical Drones – sUAS News

Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, today announced a new procurement initiative aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of tactical Remotely Piloted Aerial Systems (RPAS) for multi-domain border surveillance operations. This pilot project seeks to assess the technical and operational capabilities of RPAS technology in a tactical configuration, focusing on validating a pre-defined operational concept.

This procurement is a crucial step forward in exploring the potential of RPAS technology to enhance border security across the European Union. By evaluating different RPAS platforms and their operational performance, cost-efficiency, and reliability, we aim to optimize our surveillance capabilities and ensure the best possible use of resources.

The services requested by Frontex include:

  • Multi-purpose aerial surveillance services: Frontex seeks comprehensive aerial surveillance solutions utilizing RPAS technology.
  • Two RPAS types: The project requires a combination of long-endurance (at least two platforms) and short-endurance RPAS (at least four platforms) to cater to diverse operational needs.
  • Mobile Tactical Command, Control and Communication station: A dedicated mobile station will be crucial for real-time command and control of the deployed RPAS units.

Selection Process and Timeline:

Frontex will award the contract based on the best price-quality ratio, ensuring a balance between cost-effectiveness and the technical capabilities offered. The estimated total value of the procurement is €3,000,000.

Interested companies can find detailed information and submit tenders through the EU Funding & Tenders Portal by September 17, 2024, 15:00 CEST.
