Florida State’s Ta’Niya Latson will enter the transfer portal

Ta’Niya Latson is leaving Tallahassee, Florida.

The junior guard for Florida State will spend her senior season of college basketball elsewhere after entering the transfer portal on Thursday. SB Nation confirmed ESPN’s report that Latson — the nation’s leading scorer — will indeed enter the portal.

Latson averaged 25.2 points per game this season and also posted 4.6 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game. The 5-foot-8 guard from Miami was also second nationally in usage rate (38.1) and sixth in player efficiency rating (38.5).

The Tamika Catchings National Freshman of the Year in 2023, Latson was named to the All-ACC First Team for the third consecutive year this season. She was the runner-up for ACC Player of the Year to Notre Dame’s Hannah Hidalgo. For the second straight season, Latson is a finalist for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, given annually to the nation’a best shooting guard.

She immediately becomes the best player available in the transfer portal in this cycle, and also raises questions about how good Florida State will be next season. Brooke Wyckoff’s Seminoles are also losing forward Makayla Timpson and guard O’Mariah Gordon, both of whom have exhausted their eligibility.

Florida State made the NCAA Tournament in every season that Latson was on the roster, but never advanced to the second weekend.
