Fantasy football waiver wire: 5 QBs to consider for Week 3

Welcome to the Week 3 of our look at the best waiver wire quarterbacks out there. It’s been a wild ride for fantasy quarterbacks through two weeks and plenty of usually not great options have been putting up decent fantasy points.

We’ll go over some Week 2 QB performers that you should consider scooping off the waiver wire ahead of Week 3. We’ll classify a waiver add as someone who is rostered in roughly 60% of Yahoo leagues.

Daniel Jones, QB, Colts (17%)

Next three matchups — @TEN, @LAR, LV

Jones continues to supplement his passing work with rushing touchdown, which might not be sustainable, but we know he’s a plus rusher and the team appears more than ready to give him the ball at the goal line. He’s also not turning the ball over and has a great running back to take the pressure off, a very good rookie tight end and strong receivers to bail him out if needed. Plus, he just put up a Top 5 fantasy day against one of the best defenses in the league, the Denver Broncos.

Bryce Young, QB, Carolina Panthers (19%)

Next three matchups — ATL, @NE, MIA

Young started the game off fumbling the ball away for a Cardinals defensive touchdown, but that didn’t deter him, as he went on to complete 35-of-55 attempts for 328 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception in a close loss. Of course, the team rather Young not throw the ball 55 times, but with a poor defense, he might need to keep chucking it. His matchups are decent moving forward as well.

Jake Browning, QB, Cincinnati Bengals (0%)

Next three matchups —@MIN, @DEN, DET

Browning has Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins to throw to and he doesn’t seem all that afraid to do so, as seen by Chase’s big day. Browning was forced into the game after Joe Burrow hurt his toe. He ended up He completing 21-of-32 pass attempts for 241 yards and two touchdowns, and ran for the game-winning touchdown. Unfortunately he did throw three interceptions as well.

There is a chance Burrow is done for the year, which could make Browning even more valuable, as he would be the starter throughout. In the short term, the Bengals have a tough set of matchups, playing in Minnesota, then in Denver and back home against Detroit. It would be tough to start him these next two weeks, but he has a high-octane team to help boost his numbers.

Mac Jones, QB, San Francisco 49ers (3%)

Next three matchups — ARI, JAX, @LAR

Jones completed 26 of 39 passes for 279 yards and three touchdowns against the Saints. Jones doesn’t have to be great to put up efficient numbers in the 49ers offense and with good matchups on the way, there’s no reason to not give him a spot start if you are need of a quarterback.

We don’t know when Brock Purdy will be back, but there is a chance Jones gets a couple more starts and after seeing the Cardinals and Jaguars defense this week, two home games against them doesn’t look that daunting.

Spencer Rattler, QB, New Orleans Saints (2%)

Next three matchups — @SEA, @BUF, NYG

Rattler has a good arm and showed he has some upside for fantasy, as he completed 25 of 34 passes for 207 yards and three touchdowns against the 49ers. What really sets him apart is the fast pace Kellen Moore’s offense runs. It allows him to get a lot of passes off and gives him opportunities for touchdowns, while the running game is weak with an old Alvin Kamara taking the bulk of the work. Unfortunately the matchups aren’t great moving forward.
